Alma Izquierdo
I’m proud and fortunate to have been a member of IATSE Local 476 since 2005.
I became a member while working at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Prior to that I had been working as a makeup artist since 1982 for TV news, commercials, print, industrial videos, live corporate conferences, theater, local TV station shows, talk shows, fashion shows, etc. Since becoming a member my work has expanded to network TV shows, films and finally as makeup department head on Chicago PD since Season 1.
Initially, I had very little knowledge of what being a member of the Local meant, what the advantages and benefits are, or how I could participate. Then I was invited to an event organized by “Femmes In Film” in 2017. This group transitioned into the Women’s Committee and provided an opportunity for me to meet other women identified members and learn more about the Local.
At one of the Femmes in Film events, I met fellow member Ren Gingras. In the summer of 2019, Ren approached me to see if I’d be interested in helping create a Pride Committee. As an active member of the LGBTQ community involved with numerous nonprofit organizations for over 20 years, I jumped at the opportunity.
Since then, my co-chairs Ren Gingras, Tori Scott, Eddie Jerks III and I have been working on growing our membership, providing resources, planning social and community outreach events and most importantly providing a space for our fellow LGBTQ members and allies to feel safe to express their needs and concerns
