Sec. 7. [§ 157.] Employees shall have the right to self-organization, to form, join, or assist labor organizations, to bargain collectively through representatives of their own choosing, and to engage in other concerted activities for the purpose of collective bargaining or other mutual aid or protection, and shall also have the right to refrain from any or all of such activities except to the extent that such right may be affected by an agreement requiring membership in a labor organization as a condition of employment as authorized in section 8(a)(3) [section 158(a)(3) of this title].

The OSHA act says you have the right to a safe and healthful workplace. OSHA wants employers and employees to work together to identify and mitigate hazards.

These are the steps for reporting a problem on the jobsite:

  1. If hazard is an immediate danger, first clear others from the area.
  2. Report hazard to employer.
  3. Report hazard to Local 476 (773)775-5300

If you are injured on the Job!!!!

Please be sure to immediately file an injury report with the Set Medic. In addition, please inform your Department Head and Production coordinator. If you do not file an injury report you will not be entitled to receive the appropriate compensation for medical expenses or lost wages.

The Right to Request Representation During an Investigatory Interview

Among the rights protected by Section 7 is the right of union-represented employees, upon request, to have their representative present during an interview that the employee reasonably believes could lead to discipline.  

An employee’s requested representative, which may be a Union Steward, Business Agent or Officer, or fellow employee, is often referred to as a “Weingarten representative.”  Weingarten representatives are entitled to provide advice and active assistance to employees during investigatory interviews.  Employees’ right to request their representatives are frequently referred to as
